UUID generator

A UUID is a 128-bit identifier written as 32 hex digits. Version 4 is random. Version 7 starts with a timestamp, so values sort by creation time, which makes database indexes happier. Both are generated here with your browser's secure random source.

Common questions

Can two UUIDs collide?
In practice no. The chance of a random v4 collision is so small that it is ignored by every real system.
v4 or v7?
Use v7 for database keys, since it keeps inserts roughly in order. Use v4 when you want no information in the id at all.
